About Us

The Mercy Radiologic Technology Program is a full-time, 21-month (5 terms) certificate level program consisting of didactic and clinical experiences. Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam to practice as registered radiologic (x-ray) technologists. The didactic portion of the program is delivered in-person on the campus of Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton, OH. In addition, the clinical education portion of the program includes 1,664 clock hours of hands-on practice in local medical facilities under the supervision of in-field experts.

Program instruction is delivered primarily between 8 am – 5 pm Monday-Friday. However, each student is required to attend a total of six Saturday and six evening clinical days.

The Mercy Radiologic Technology Program has entered into an articulation agreement with Kent State University to facilitate application of the coursework taken within the program to an Associate of Technical Study (ATS) degree upon graduation from the program. The current agreement is effective June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2028. Please refer to the Additional Information tab to learn more about the agreement, including required residency credits.

Eligibility requirements for ARRT certification in radiography require all candidates to have earned an associate or higher degree from an accrediting agency recognized by the ARRT prior to taking the Radiography Certification Examination. The degree does not need to be in the radiologic sciences, and it can be earned before entering the educational program or during the program.

Prior to entering the Mercy Radiologic Technology Program, prerequisites must be completed with at least a "C" average (or the prerequisite must be repeated) at an accredited college or university.

Prerequisites include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology I
  • Anatomy and Physiology II
  • Medical Terminology

NOTE: Students who are currently enrolled in one or more of the program prerequisite courses may still apply before the February 1st deadline. If they are selected for the program, they must have all prerequisite courses completed by the summer semester prior to beginning the program. Entrance into the program is contingent on passing all prerequisite courses with a grade of "C" or better. It is not advised that prospective students without a degree have no more than two outstanding degree requirements before entering the program.

Curriculum Additional Information

Additional Information

How long is the program?

The Radiologic Technology Program is 21 months in length (five semesters).

When does the program begin?

The program begins in late August each year.

What are the program pre-requisites?

The prerequisites are college-level Anatomy & Physiology I and II and Medical Terminology.

How do you select the clinical sites a student will be attending?

Each student attends two hospital clinical sites which are chosen by a lottery.

What is the deadline for application?

The program application, application fee, and all college transcripts must be submitted by Feb. 1st of each year for the program beginning the following August.

What is the acceptance process?

Prospective students participate in a behavior-based interview used to assess communication and critical thinking skills. This interview is evaluated by a point system. Total points assigned to a student include points from the interview, high school and college GPAs, and science and math courses taken with a grade of C or better. The students with the highest scores are accepted into the program.

Do I need a college degree to get accepted into the program?

No. However, you will need a degree before the end of our program to be eligible for graduation and the national registry exam.

Do your classes transfer to other colleges for my degree?

Courses taken in the Mercy Radiologic Technology program may or may not transfer to another academic institution. Be sure to review the Transferability of Credit policy at the receiving institution to which you are applying. Graduates of the program can apply their courses to an Associate of Technical Studies degree from Kent State University under the terms of an articulation agreement between the program and the university.

What is the time commitment for successful completion of the program?

Students should expect a full schedule, attending either class or clinical experiences Monday-Friday, approximately 36 hours/week. In addition, each student is required to complete six Saturday and six evening clinical rotations. A compensatory day "off" will be given during the week when these additional hours are required to keep the required hours of attendance for the week under 40 hours.

Do you have a weekend or evening program?

No.

What are the eligibility requirements to sit for my ARRT radiography examination and gain employment in the field?

Find the ARRT primary eligibility pathway requirements.
